Several hurdles on the path of attaining food and livelihood security through Sustainable agriculture and Natural Resource Management:

  • Data about subsistence crop and indigenous cropping system, local water management strategies etc are poorly documented and difficult to retrieve, making eco-zone specific planning a difficult task.
  • Trainers with appropriate technical and organizational skills are rare.
  • Farmers groups are not well organized, making exchange of ideas, experiences, options, skills, seeds etc are difficult. Lack of organization also affects farmer’s ability to protect their right of access to land, water and forest and to obtain a fair price for their produce.

Broader objective of the Training Programme

  • Creating awareness among the people about sustainable vegetable production through out the year in the present context.
  • To maintain the soil fertility through organic approach and no/low cost technology.
  • To produce chemical and toxic free green vegetable in the backyard area of the rural farmers in order to free from the bondage of market expenses and also to consume nutritious vegetable which will enhance the resistance capacity of the people to combat against fatal diseases.
  • To reduce the people about selection of low water duty vegetable to these areas in order to avoid instant drought coming in most of the time.
  • To impart skills on tools and techniques for designing appropriate cropping pattern planning for vegetable cultivation in a calendar year.

Qualitative benefit

  • The health status of rural people especially children and women would be improved.
  • The soil health will be improved slowly by application of home made organic manures. This measurement can be assured with presence of earth worms and other insects in the soil increase in water holding capacity and loosening of soil.
  • The rural people will be capable of leading a better life style on account of some earning from vegetable production and selling.
  • They will get nutritionally rich vegetable through out the year.
  • The environmental condition of the locality will be toxic free and eco-friendly.
  • The migration can be checked to a great extent.
